“THE STORY OF BROOKLANDS,”

by W. Boddy. Compiled from the official records of the B.A.R.C., with a Foreword by John Cobb, this is one of the most detailed and comprehensive motor-racing books ever published. Vol.1 of this limited edition runs to over 300 pages, some 100,000 words, and contains 85 photographs. Of this authentic history of the world’s first motor course the Press has said :

THE MOTOR—” Mr. Boddy has assembled a mass of data which is available nowhere else. The keen motorist will browse happily through his pages for hours at a first reading, and keep the volume at hand for constant reference. This immunity (from mistakes) moreover, is not achieved by that calculated vagueness which is the lazy historian’s standby, for Mr. Boddy takes the reader lap by lap and almost mile by mile through every race put on at the Weybridge track . . . and goes out of his way to collect data about interesting cars and drivers. ‘ Boddy on Brook lands ‘ is a most valuable handbook .

THE MOTOR WORLD—” I am glad that W. Boddy has chronicled the history of Brooklands : happy, too, because in his painstaking way he has analysed the records of the B.A.R.C., faithfully transforming dull statistics into a romantic tale of the conquest of speed. Now . . . the Weybridge track is but a pleasant memory, but . . . Boddy has perpetuated its memory. The ‘Story of Brooklands ‘ merits a place in every sporting motorist’s library and its reference sections will be found invaluable in correctly saying ‘ Who did what ; where and when ‘.”

SOUTHSEA M.C. MAGAZINE—” This book is so very good and so intensely interesting that I hardly know what to say. There must be years of most painstaking research behind the wealth of detail which goes to make this book a comprehensive history of the famous track . . .”

CECIL CLUTTON IN THE V.S.C.C. BULLETIN—” As a work of reference alone it amply justifies its place on the bookshelf, but Boddy has also performed the considerable literary feat of presenting his masses of fact and figure in a thoroughly readable form.”

ULSTER MOTORING REVIEW—” This book . . . is a worthy successor to Mr. Boddy’s history of the junior Car Club’s 200-Mile Race. It can be heartily recommended to all lovers of the sport.”

VETERAN CAR C LUB GAZETTE—”The many books written about motor racing have been characterised by a marked degree of ‘ sameness, . . . it comes therefore as refreshing relief to read ‘The Story of Brooklands,’ as portrayed by Mr. Boddy . . . It is well illustrated and . . . discloses patient and exhaustive research on the part of the Author who well merits congratulation.”

BENTLEY DRIVERS’ CLUB REVIEW—”No motor racing library can possibly afford to be without ‘ The Story of Brooklands,’ which has been written by the Editor of MOTOR SPORT with all his characteristic thoroughness and attention to detail.”

BUGANTICS—” It is written in a style which makes the reader loth to put the book down, is well printed and generously illustrated. It should certainly be added to the library of all those who are keen on motor racing.”
