What is Armaglazing?

“What do you know about Armaglaze?” This question brought a blank stare and a series of mental pictures that were nothing to do with motoring. The answer is Endrust, the Company that brought guaranteed rustproofing, have brought from Japan a silica coating process that is designed to keep new car bodywork at showroom standard without continuous polishing and on older cars the face lift is really impressive. We decided to take up a trial offer and our BMW 3.0CSi was duly taken to an Alan Pond service station, the nearest agent to our offices. First the car is cleaned to remove road dirt, old polish, and the top film of paint. When the operators are satisfied, a plan of the car is marked up with any blemishes and the owner signs that these marks are there before the Arrnaglaze process starts. Two hours, several different solutions and much electric buffing later the surface looks as good as those chauffer-driven limousines one sees in the West End.

“How long does it last?” The answer to that from Endrust is three years under normal conditions. On the BMW the surface still comes up to a polished surface when washed and leathered five months after being treated, the car certainly remains cleaner longer and water still forms into globules and runs off the bonnet. The surface has been blasted by sand and dust during the mistral that blew at Ricard before the 1,000 kms. sports car race, was cooked by the very hot weather in Northern Italy and slashed by rain and sand on the 110 m.p.h. dash across Germany after the Austrian Grand Prix. With prices ranging from a Mini at £12 to a Rolls at £35, it seems good value to get a lustrous shine without the backache.
