F.750 Ladies Race

Sir,

In your October issue you were kind enough to reprint a letter I had published in the 750 Bulletin in my search for sponsors for the annual Reliant 750 Formula Ladies Race to be held at Snetterton. I thought you might be interested to know that we were able to secure sponsorship from Templar Tillers of High Wycombe who very generously gave the Ladies £100 for trophies and to offset some of the costs of RAC licences, medicals and entry fees.

Templar Tillers is the garden equipment company of Group 8 driver Tony Hazelwood who also sponsors Mick Hill’s V8 Beetle, Bill Cox’s Capri and Mike Wilds Group 8 Surtees, and Mike Wilds very kindly came along to present the numerous awards to all the Ladies.

The race was in fact won by Lynda Whatley driving the Centaur of Lyn Evans, in a time of 11.49.2 at an average speed of 68.12 m.p.h. closely pushed all the way by Lesley Robinson who finished second in a time of 11.49.3. We were also able to secure sponsorship from Warwick Printing Company of Leamington Spa and a Director of the Company, Marian Morris, finished 5th in the race after recovering from a last lap pin. Last year’s Ladies’ Champion Pamela Giles was well on the way to retaining her title when her borrowed DNC developed a mis-fire and forced her to retire whilst leading. We also had prizes from Levi Strauss, Chaldean of Sheffield, the Editor of the 750 Bulletin and five 750 Club members!

May I please, through your magazine, thank all the above, the organising club and all the I.adies for making the event possible.
