THE VINTAGE S.C.C. MAPREADIN 3 CONTEST

The Vintage Sports Car Club held a map-reading contest on Sunday, January 24th, starting front the Phcfnix, Hartley Whitney and ending up for tea at the Old Rye Farm, between Odiham and Farnham.

Despite the unbelievable rain ten cars, all tightly packed with passengers, competed and as quite a number of marshals were needed the subsequent party was of considerable proportions. The evening was passed in traditional manner. The only casualty was R. WatkinsPitchford, who brought his hardy lady passenger in a ‘Nash completely devoid

of weather equipment, and was last seen bogged to the axles in a farm yard with a minimum of operative transmission.

The event was won by Clive WindsorRichards, driving a resplendent 30/98 Vauxhall saloon, with J. C. H. Wrigley second, on a Lea-Francis.

BUCATTI SALES

At Olympia it was rumoured that a well-known British sportsman had placed an order for a 3.3-litre Type 575 Bugatti with the streamline Electron coupe bodywork. It has since been revealed that the sportsman in question was none

other than Earl Howe, president of the Bugatti Owners’ Club. Capt. Sir Malcolm Campbell is also awaiting delivery of a 57S, to which will be fitted a two-seater body of special design, while T. A. S. 0. Mathieson is yet another well-known driver who has a 57S on order. A drophead coupe body will be fitted to the latter chassis. The more ” touring ” 3.3-litre Type 57 has been ordered by Ronald Leon and R. B. Pope, both of whom are having the bodywork from their old cars transferred to the new chassis, Mr. Leon’s car being a drop-head coupe.

Thus does the Molsheim marque retain its popularity in this country.
