Dealing

Any business bearing the slogan “Only the Best Cars” naturally has a lot to live up to, but Tom Hartley Jnr happily goes the extra mile to ensure the term rings true.

Specialising in collectable road and race cars, Tom Hartley Jnr has grown in popularity since its formation in 2014. It has been honoured by The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise for international trade.

Hartley Jnr has been in the business since the age of 11, when he joined his father’s dealership. By the age of 16 he was a full partner. Hartley Jnr built his reputation on buying and selling truly authentic automobiles and has an enviable record, which includes some of the world’s biggest private treaty sales of the last 10 years – ranging from a Mercedes W125 Grand Prix car to a 250 Testa Rossa.

Tom Hartley Jnr doesn’t trade in replicas, meaning every one of its cars comes with pedigree. Its competition car sales list consists only of notable models or race winners, meaning it is aimed squarely at the high end of the market.

The business prides itself on owning the vast majority of its stock, instead of relying on consignment sales. The thinking is, if the business has invested its own money into a particular car then it gives a buyer peace of mind into that particular car’s quality.

“I’ve been in this business for 25 years, and I’m still only 36, I reckon that’s pretty unique,” says Hartley Jnr. “I take great pride in the quality of the product we supply and the trust our clients have in us. Many buyers don’t see their car, or have it inspected before they complete their purchase, so great trust is bestowed upon our description. At this end of the market you only mis-describe a car once!”
