Brooklands secures Napier-Railton at last

Lottery grants totally £1.5 million have enabled Brooklands Museum finally to purchase John Cobb’s famous Napier-Railton.

Built specifically for the Track and perpetual holder of the lap record there, the massive 24-litre machine returned from Germany earlier this year, and had been on loan at Brooklands until the Museum was able to raise the £800,000 asking price.

The balance of the Heritage Lottery Fund grant will kick-start a £2.5m restoration of the smaller Museum buildings, including the leaking Campbell shed, and a British GP exhibition in the Jackson shed. In addition, a Brooklands-built Hurricane has been bought for restoration.
