Moss Awarded BRDC Medal

To a standing ovation, Stirling Moss received the Gold Medal of the British Racing Drivers Club at its annual dinner at Grosvenor House, London, in November. Awarded for a lifetime contribution to motorsport, the medal recognises not only Moss’s unparalleled competition success but also his continuing position as an ambassador for the sport.

There have only been three previous recipients of the award in its 71-year history: Ken Tyrrell, Sir Frank Williams and Bernie Ecclestone. Moss is thus the first driver to be so honoured, although during his career he was awarded the BRDC’s Gold Star no fewer than 10 times. The Gold Star was decided by a points tally covering all types of racing, and was effectively a prestigious though unofficial British championship. Adding the Gold Medal to his Stars is a unique honour for Moss. GC
