The Motoring Defence League Ltd.
The Motoring Defence League Ltd. is a Company limited by guarantee, incorporated under the Company’s Act 1948. The principal AIMS AND OBJECTS are:—
1. To protect maintain and promote the interests and freedom of motorists throughout Great Britain.
2. To undertake promote and encourage study and research into the needs and requirements of motorists.
3. To advise and assist motorists in the assertion and defence of their rights in Courts of Law and before any statutory tribunal or other body of enquiry.
Protection and promotion of interests
Every possible step will be taken to protect and promote the interests of motorists including parliamentary representation, petitioning Ministers and local authorities, etc., or by such other lawful means as may be deemed expedient.
Study and research
Advice and assistance will be sought of any organisation, commercial undertaking, trade or other association, professional or otherwise qualified persons or person, Government departments and local authorities. Special attention will be given to the question of INSURANCE.
Courts of law
While the Council will do all that is fit and proper to protect members’ interests, it cannot on demand give free legal representation to every member. Where genuine cases of unfair treatment or possible miscarriage of justice are brought to its notice, each such case will be treated on its merits and no stone will be left unturned to see that JUSTICE IS DONE.
Organisation
The League is administered by a COUNCIL OF MANAGEMENT. The Council consists of the Honorary Officers and elected members. Honorary Officers include President, Vice-Presidents. Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer. The day to day administration is under the control of an appointed Administrator responsible to the Council of Management.
Membership
Admission to membership is in accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Association, comprising Members and Associates. Admission is at the sole discretion of the Council. The Annual Subscription is ONE GUINEA, or as may from time to time be determined by resolution of the Council.
Accounts
Proper books of Accounts are kept by the Council in accordance with the provisions of the Company’s Act and at least once a year accounts will be examined and the correctness of the Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet ascertained by properly qualified auditors.
