May I beg some of your valuable space to relate an experience I had on Good Friday? On a trip to Cardigan Bay for the holiday our silencer developed a vast split, so more in hope than certainty, I stopped at a new garage in the heart of Herefordshire and with some trepidation explained my troubles to the proprietor. However, I needn’t have worried, as, much to my delight, within a few minutes all work on another car stopp my Talbot was on the hoist and the silencer off to be brazed. Very pleased with this reception, we got in conversation with the proprietor, who apparently gave up being an airline pilot to start a garage and “snackery” about a year ago, and now specialises in and holds all parts for all post-vintage Alvis cars, has a very nice Speed Twenty himself and is agent for the 3-litre Alvis, the Peugeot range and Alexander conversions. In a very short time my car was ready, so after a brief natter about cars, I paid a surprisingly low bill and carried on.

As I normally have all work done in London by a well-known Talbot specialist I’m used to good service and have always rather feared the emergency repair done by an unknown country garage; however, in this case I was so agreeably surprised that I should like to recommend to your notice and to that of your many readers Mr. E. M. Cairnes of Winforton Motors at Winforton, roughly two-thirds of the way from Hereford to Hay-on-Wye for swift, helpful and very reasonable service, especially at lunchtime on bank holidays !

Needless to say, I have no connection with Mr. Cairnes other than as a very satisfied customer.
