Montjuich Park in Barcelona saw plenty of excitement last month with the running of the Spanish Grand Prix. On the previous page we feature Emerson Fittipaldi on his way to his somewhat lucky victory. Note that his right rear tyre is concave as it was in the process of going flat. Pictured left is Fittipaldi’s team-mate Ronnie Peterson who looked so certain of victory. His John Player Lotus (No. 2) is captured as it takes off over the bumps past the pits. In the later stages of the race Carlos Reutemann in the new Brabham BT42 (No. 18) started to challenge for the lead. But he was also in trouble, note his right front tyre as he leads Howden Ganley’s Iso through the hairpin. A drive-shaft ended the Argentinian’s run. In only his second ever Grand Prix George Follmer picked up a useful third place for the Shadow team in car No. 20. After the race Fittipaldi, second man Cevert and Colin Chapman are pictured as they stand to attention for the national anthem. Jacky lckx raced the new 1973 B3 Ferrari for the first time in Spain and the bright red car, No. 7, looked impressive but ran into brake trouble.
