The Formula Two season is now under way and following the two early victories by March-BMWs, the pendulum has swung in favour of Ford-powered cars. On Easter Monday at Thruxion Gerry Birrell in his works Chevron (No. 65 above) looked all set to win when he tangled in the chicane with Mike Beuttler’s March-BMW, allowing victory to go to Henri Pescarolo’s Motul M1. The winner at the Eifelrennen the following weekend was former Lotus and BRM Formula One driver Reine WiseII, who scored an excellent victory for the newly formed Picko Troberg team of GRDs sponsored by Pierre Robert. But the non-graded section was won by Patrick Depailler in the French Alpine-based but British-run Elf 2 team.
