Museum news

The late Donald Campbell’s “Bluebird” with which he broke the Land Speed Record in 1964 at 403.1 m.p.h. has been purchased for £85,000 by the Science Museum, the NMM Heritage Memorial Fund and the National Motor Museum, this historic car remaining the property of the Science Museum but being on indefinite loan to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. The body had begun to corrode but Duckhams, who were asked for their advice, were able to treat the body without dismantling the car, using Duckharns’ Jenolite Rust Remover and Preventer on encrusted areas, after which the underbelly was sprayed with Duckhams’ DPP, the job taking only two days. — W.B.
