Cat's Eyes Rally

After two previous Cats’ Eyes many complaints were made that the rally was too easy, and after the latest in the series many were the complaints that it was too difficult! So determined were the organisers to find the winner on the road section that the eventual victor Don Grimshaw in a TR3 lost 27 minutes. From three starting points the route converged on Reading from where the difficulties began with route cards, map references, and supplementary route cards so that navigators were kept busy. Many drivers missed controls to avoid the mud and put themselves well out of the running and several others retired with mechanical bothers. The remainder of the rally ran through Devon and Wiltshire and back to Blackbushe Airport for driving tests and finally to London Airport where the results were announced to tired drivers of mud-stained cars, many of whom voiced complaints against the nature of the event; but at least it sorted out the best cars, drivers and navigators for the particular conditions of the Cats’ Eyes rally.
