This book should fill a long-felt need and is admirably arranged. Graham Hill contributes a Foreword, Martyn Watkins writes about Converted Cars, Philip Smith on Improving Performance, Paddy Hopkirk on Rally Preparation, and Jeff Uren on Saloon Car Racing. Thereafter there are sections devoted to tuning equipment for popular cars—Ford, Jaguar, B.M.C., Rootes, Standard-Triumph and others, each containing a directory of suppliers of engine-souping goodies, preceded by an article by an authority on tuning this particular make—Glyn Evanson, M.G., Harry Carlton on Ford, Jaguar Cars Ltd. on Jaguar, Marcus Chambers on Rootes Group cars, Graham Robson on Standard-Triumph.

There are additional directories for suspension and accessories extras and special equipment, lists of trade addresses, specialist garages, etc., chapters on choosing the correct sparking plugs, on “Chequered-tape and all that Gear,” on chassis components, and so on. Much of the equipment is illustrated and priced and altogether this book would seem to answer many of the queries from would-be go-faster readers that Motor Sport receives daily. — W.B.

Autobooks Ltd. inform us of a sequel to the fiasco over the Architectural Times Ltd. Rolls-Royce book by Stewart, which never came. Apparently this widely-advertised book collected a lot of money, Autobooks themselves taking many orders and passing on their takings to the author. The unsatisfied clients took steps to get either the book or a refund but all were unsuccessful and the matter gradually died. But Autobooks Ltd. pressed on, obtained a County Court Judgement, and, finally, a Winding-Up Order. They now inform us that all proved claims will be paid at 11s. 9d. in the £, “which,” they add, “isn’t at all bad considering that Stewart was an undischarged bankrupt.”
