1974 Brazilian Grand Prix in pictures

Emerson Fittipaldi won the Brazilian Grand Prix for the second successive year, this time at the wheel of a McLaren M23. The Brazilian is seen below in hard pursuit of Ronnie Peterson’s Lotus 72 which he subsequently overtook. Peterson had to make a pit stop to change a deflated rear tyre and finally finished in sixth place. On the left Fittipaldi is pictured on the winner’s rostrum in company with Jacky Ickx. the Belgian driver having taken third place in his Lotus 72, and Switzerland’s Clay Regazzoni who took second place in his Ferrari. Having finished third two weeks earlier in the Argentine Grand Prix, Regazzoni now leads the Drivers’ World Championship with ten points to the nine each of HuIme and Fittipaldi.

Driving the fastest BRM, Jean-Pierre Beltoise (above) could only manage tenth place in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Above right, Mike Hailwood’s Yardley McLaren M23 is pictured on its way to fifth place in this rain-shortened race, a lucky two points for the British driver as he was about to stop to investigate a vibration from the front wheels when the chequered flag came out. Below, Germany’s Hans-Joachim Stuck, son of the pre-war Auto Union driver, went well in his works March 741 until a driveshaft broke. Here he leads Peterson and Scheckter.
