Sticking one's neck out

Sir,

The RAC has evidently decided to beat Her Majesty’s Government in the infringement of liberty: A regulation has now been passed that all open motor cars built after 1965 shall have FIA roll-over bars for taking part in any speed event, with the effect on small Clubs and small events (such as Sprints and Hill Climbs) I leave to your imagination. But I for one will not ruin my motor car (a Morgan) by the fitting of such a monstrosity.

May I through your columns urge all fellow competitors to besiege the RAC with letters in protest of this latest piece of lunacy.

[It’s this safety at all costs complex. Let us hope it does not spread to vintage racing. We warned that it might, some considerable time ago.—Ed.]
