3 — Aston Martin: The Aston Martin 1½-litre had two distinguishing features among its contemporaries; the engine lubrication was by a dry-sump system with a separate oil tank at the front of the car, and the front mudguards were mounted on the brake back-plates and turned to right or left with the wheels. This 1934 Mark 2 model shows the general characteristics of the post-vintage Aston Martin, the oil filler for the dry-sump tank protruding through the metal apron over the dumb-irons. At the time of the Motor Sport road test, in Januray 1935, it was described as “A fast sports car which inspires confidence”.
