Rally club reunites Monte Minis

Forty-five years after they were part of BMC’s winning team on the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, two famous works Mini Coopers were reunited for the Historic Rally Car Register’s Open Day at Gaydon. Paddy Hopkirk’s winning car (33 EJB, right) and Rauno Aaltonen’s seventh-placed car (569 FMO) took pride of place at the Heritage Motor Centre as the event marked the 50th anniversary of the Mini.

Back in 1964 both cars were retired from competition soon after the famous event in order to be used on promotional tours. Experts believe this was the first time since then that the cars had stood side by side.
