Castrol films

This year’s films by Castrol, which are available on loan to motor clubs and other organisations, feature extreme ends of the sporting world. “A Tale of Two Rallies” as the name implies films the San Remo Rally and the RAC Rally of last year, the first with some superb scenic views of Italian mountain country and the road-race atmosphere of the Italian event. The British event captures the more condensed and artificial nature of our forest-track rally and in both events rally people appear as rather dull personalities when interviewed, probably due to the fatigue brought on by long day and night driving, cooped up in a noisy tin box. The action is made by the sight of the wicked-looking Lancia Stratos and the mean-looking Triumph TR7-V8.

The second film is all about the British motorcycle Grand Prix at Silverstone last year, with glimpses of the intriguing new 500 c.c. Honda Grand Prix bikes and the knee-scraping antics of the top motorcycle aces. If you are not a Barry Sheene fan, give this one a miss, for he is shown up in a bad light as a person. — D.S.J.
