Gold Cup to honour F5000

The history of the Formula 5000 category in Britain will be celebrated at the Oulton Park Gold Cup on August 30/31, with event organisers issuing a call for all former F5000 racers to attend the event.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the inaugural British Formula 5000 Championship race, held at Oulton Park at Easter 1969, the Historic Sports Car Club is trying to locate as many F5000 ‘old boys’ as it can.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing as many past drivers as possible who can attend the Gold Cup,” said the HSCC’s Grahame White. “I’ve already spoken to Peter Gethin who said he would love to come and he will make every effort to be there.” Gethin won the inaugural race in a McLaren M10B.

The race weekend will include a grid full of the 5-litre cars in action in the HSCC’s Historic Formula 5000/Formula 2 Championship.
