Amelia was very solid, with a 95 per cent sell-through rate. Amelia buyers are diverse; it draws well nationally but is also accessible for European clients. There is a high concentration of Porsches at this sale because the south-east US has always been a strong region for the marque. But buyers of late-model supercars are very selective; the market falls off steeply below the top tier. Our ‘barn find’ cars sold well because two scenarios seem to be of particular value: finding a car that can be preserved as original, or one that can easily be assessed for refurbishment potential. You should always buy what makes your heart race. The market is built on emotion, despite the cars’ values.
