Jim Tiller’s much modified Allard J2 set the pace in the 99th Brighton Speed Trials in September. Tiller blasted along Madeira Drive in a time of 10.2sec, reaching 140mph in the annual running of the historic event.

Juan Barazi added another Classic Endurance Racing victory to his tally when he kept his Porsche 917 just ahead of the Gulf Mirage of American Chris McAllister at Spa. After an hour of racing, barely a car’s length split them at the flag in the fourth and final CER race of the year.

A late moment on an oily track by teenage ace Scott Mansell opened the door for Klaas Zwart to win the EuroBOSS race at Brands Hatch. Mansell’s Benetton B197 recovered to second behind the Dutchman’s Ascari-badged Benetton.

Richard Gower/Dorian Evans claimed the Trackrod Historic Cup in their Mk1 Escort (below) after a charge through the Yorkshire forests in the penultimate round of the British Historic Rally Championship. Dessie Nutt/Geraldine McBride saw off the challenge of Patrick Watts to win Category 1, while Stig Blomqvist/Ana Goni (Mk2 Escort) won the concurrent HRCR Classic division.

Bert Dolk/Jan Berkhof won the 16th Classic Marathon in their Volvo 122S. Starting in Lübeck, the route ended in Oslo. Jayne Wignall/Kevin Savage were second in a Sunbeam Tiger.
