The Brooklands Collection is a treasure trove of cars, models and memorabilia, with this helmet and box typical of the items on display.

On loan from Richard Gauntlett — son of the late Victor, one-time saviour of Aston Martin — this is the helmet which was worn by George Harvey-Noble as he secured his 120mph badge (for a one-lap average) from the BARC. Pressing on, he joined the ranks of the few when he earned his 130mph badge in the Bentley-Jackson in 1939. He was the 17th and last person to do so.

Showing his commitment to speed, Harvey-Noble eschewed the cloth helmets worn by some and chose his headware from civil and military hatters Herbert Johnson.

The helmet and box can be found in the ERA Shed, nestling in the speed record display celebrating the Outer Circuit records.
