New Esso Road Maps

The well-known Esso road maps of the British Isles have been completely revised and re-styled. Several new features have been added to make the map an indispensable aid to drivers. These features include:

1. Larger and more convenient map areas on each sheet.
2. Important urban areas shown on a scale of 1 inch to 1 mile.
3. Clear indication of the new “Primary” routes.
4. Railways are marked as important aids to map reading.

The large scale urban area maps are expected to prove particularly useful. Road networks in such areas tend to be very complex, and are much more clearly shown on the larger scale. In addition to the improvement in the total content of the series, detail changes in the styling mean that motorways and principal roads stand out, and the maps are easier to read. The general scale is 1 inch to 5 miles. There are eight maps to a set, and a dark blue, plastic covered, double pocket wallet measuring 9 in. by 9 in. is available to hold the complete set. This wallet contains a transparent plastic envelope into which the folded map on be inserted. A chinagraph pencil is included in the set. It may be used to mark a route on the envelope without marking the map. The markings may be erased afterwards. The wallet and complete set of maps costs 22s. 6d. Individual maps cost 1s. 6d. each.
