Lady Mary Grosvenor

Lady Mary Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster’s youngest daughter, has died, aged 89. Competing in the 1930s in such important rallies as the RAC and RSAC events, when she had two Riley Sprites, she turned to speed hillclimbs before the war, but had to wait until afterwards to take delivery of the Alta she had ordered.

By 1947 she was competing with a 135 Bugatti. Apart from driving the Alta, Lady Mary bought the Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica which had been exhibited at the 1949 London Motor Show, and with it made fastest ladies’ time at Prescott in 1950. She gave up the sport in 1951 after her father’s death, to manage her estates in S Africa, Kenya and Scotland.
