Hsu scores despite Spice rivalry
Twin wins for US visitor in GpC sportscars, while Christian Glaser continues his TGP run

American visitor Aaron Hsu was the star of the third event on the Group C/GTP calendar when he dominated both races at Spa-Francorchamps. Racing a Porsche 962, Hsu took pole by 1.8sec from the Spice SE90C of David Mercer and went on to win Saturday’s hour-long race by more than 2min.

On Sunday, Hsu was again unstoppable and he won the half-hour race, although Mercer came back strongly after getting a drive-through penalty on Saturday to finish only eight seconds down on the Porsche.

Mark Sumpter was twice on the podium as he continued to learn about his Porsche 962. For the hour-long race he was partnered by old friend Chris Goodwin and they finished second to Hsu, before Sumpter was edged back to third by Mercer on Sunday.

Having taken a podium with his Group C Jaguar, Christian Glasel claimed another Thoroughbred Grand Prix win in his Brabham BT49D. The defending champion finished six seconds up on the BT49C of Joaquin Folch, which had started from pole position for the fourth race of the TGP season.

Peter Sowerby led the Brabham chase in his Williams FW07C, while Steve Hartley (Arrows A6) won class D in fifth overall to catapult himself to the top of the championship standings.
