Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Mike Conway tackles our 12 FIA World Endurance Championship questions

How’s the season going so far?
We’ve had a lot of ups and downs already this season. We had great pace in Le Mans and the chance to win it with both cars but didn’t get the result at the end. The rest of the season seems to be more difficult pace-wise. Hopefully the rest of the season will be better.
High point?
Leading Le Mans for such a long period, definitely.
Low point?
Not winning it.
Who (other than yourself!) is driving particularly well at the moment?
All of us are really close to each other at the moment.
Where would you like to take the World Endurance Championship if you could race anywhere?
Very difficult question, as we are already driving in really cool places, from the top of my head I’d say the Valencia street track.
Describe the challenge of Le Mans in three words.
Tiring. Exciting. Rewarding (hopefully!).

One car (other than the one you’re currently driving), one circuit – what would you choose?
Macau with a Formula 3 car.
Your greatest race?
Many of them to be honest. Winning the first race with Toyota in Bahrain was really cool. And the IndyCar wins after coming back from injury.
The worst car you’ve driven on the road and on track?
One of my dad’s old cars – a Ford Cortina. It actually had no brakes and the engine was always overheating. Yeah that wasn’t fun… On the track it was the Formula Ford.
What do you still want to achieve that you haven’t yet?
Winning 24 Hours of Le Mans and the WEC Championship
The best advice you’ve been given?
Go fast and don’t crash.
What would you be if you weren’t a professional driver?
Probably something artistic, I like to be creative.
