He won that year\u2019s Swiss Formula Ford 1800 Championship (winning every race of the less-than competitive series) before switching to German Formula BMW a year later with HBR Motorsport. Second during the final weekend at Hockenheim was one of three podium finishes as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0claimed sixth in the points.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He joined Team\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kolles<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for an inconsistent campaign in the 2004 Formula 3\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Euroseries<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Pole position at Adria was followed by\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0best result of the season, finishing fourth despite a spin. He switched to ASM for the final weekend of the season at Hockenheim and was fastest in qualifying once more. He remained with ASM in 2005\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and won twice (Spa-<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Francorchamps<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and N\u00fcrburgring) as he finished a distant runner-up behind team-mate\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Lewis Hamilton<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">was\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">also second behind Hamilton in the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Zandvoort<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0F3 Masters before representing Germany in three A1GP rounds that winter.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Rather than remain in European F3 for a third season,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0accepted a works TOM\u2019s drive in the Japanese series\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and that move paid dividends. The Japanese GP was held in near monsoon conditions at Fuji and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">delivered the team\u2019s only point of the season when he inherited eighth position when\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tonio<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Liuzzi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was penalised for overtaking under yellow flags.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New identity as Force India<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Vijay\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mallya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0acquired the team that winter and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was retained by the renamed Force India<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for 2008 \u2013 its fourth identity in as many years<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0However, errors that could have been forgiven a year ago as those of a rookie were now seen as inconsistency. His\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Force India VJM01-Ferrari<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0retired from 11 GPs including crashing out five times. That included during the closing stages of the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0wet\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Monaco GP when\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was on course for a fine fourth place finish before Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen lost control\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and crashed into him at\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the chicane<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He was r<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">etained by Force India despite that pointless campaign<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. With<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the team\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">now powered by Mercedes-Benz engines<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">enjoyed a welcome upturn in form at the end of the European season. Giancarlo\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fisichella<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">convert<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a surprise\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pole position\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the 2009 Belgian GP\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">into a second place finish\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0starred\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">at Monza<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Having started from the front row for the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">only time in his F1\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">career,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0recovered from\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hitting one of his mechanics during a pitstop\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(without injur<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to set the fastest race lap\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and finish\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fourth<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">2010\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">season began with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">making it into Q3 for the first four races including starting\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fourth\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Malaysia<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. F<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ifth\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in the race, he repeated\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that result in Belgium\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">despite richer teams out-developing Force India as the season progressed. He outperformed team-mate\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Liuzzi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and completed his best season so far 11th in the World Championship.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Although\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0would finish 2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0with his best position in the w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">orld\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hampionship, much of the year was overshadowed by an incident in a Chinese nightclub. Alleged to have assaulted Lotus Renault co-owner Eric Lux,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0eventually appeared in a Munich court\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in January 2012\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and he was found guilty of bodily harm<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for which h<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e received a suspended 18 month sentence and \u20ac<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">200,000 fine.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Such a pity that escapade masked his finest season to date \u2013 scoring points on nine occasions and a career best ninth overall.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Return to Force India and Sauber<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fter a year away from the sport<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0made a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">surprise\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">return to Force India in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">2013<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and was immediately back in the limelight<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">employed an alternative\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tyre strategy to lead the Austra<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">l<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ian GP before finishing seventh. An impressive fifth at Monaco was the best finish of his year\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">but it would not be enough to keep his place in the Force India line-up<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New permanent numbers were introduced for the 2014 World Championship with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0choosing 99 for his Sauber C33-Ferrari. However, this was to be one of the worst seasons for his new team and neither\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0nor team-mate Esteban Guti\u00e9rrez scored a point. That meant that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sutil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was left\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">without a drive\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">at the start of 2015<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. He became\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Williams\u2019s reserve driver after Valtteri\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Bottas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0missed the opening Grand Prix with a back injury<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as not called into action<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in what was his most recent\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">involvement with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the sport<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span
