Three cars tell the untold story of Ayrton Senna's career in the December issue – view a gallery of the Ralt RT3

This is the Ralt RT3 in which Ayrton Senna made his Formula 3 debut.

A West Surrey Racing-prepared Ralt RT3, chassis no291, took Enrique Mansilla to second place in the 1982 British F3 Championship. And it was in this car that Senna tasted F3 for the first time, at Thruxton that same year.

What happened next was a Senna masterclass: at the test he lapped quicker than that year's pole position time (set by future F3 rival Martin Brundle), gained an intimate knowledge of the F3 car at the following Snetterton test, and proceeded to win on his F3 debut in a non-championship round just a few weeks later.

Dickie Meaden speaks to WSR team owner Dick Bennetts and drives that very car as part of 'Senna: the early years' in the December 2018 issue.Pick up or download a copy here.

The Ralt was a pivotal part of Senna's career, passed between owners including Red Bull boss Helmut Marko and current historic racer Mark Martin. View a gallery of Dickie's test below.
