Records tumbled at Chateau Impney’s third hillclimb since racing cars returned to the Worcestershire manor, with the 40-second mark broken for the first time in its history.

Jack Woodhouse in a Lotus 20/22 set the fastest time of the day for the second time in three years, taking the Formula Junior Lotus up the historic hillclimb in just 39.33sec.

More than 200 cars took to the startline throughout the weekend, from Minis to single seaters to pre-war brutes, but Woodhouse was comfortably the class of the field. The runner-up spot went to the Brabham BT21B with Martin Jones at the helm, while 2016 victor Callum Grant claimed third, two seconds adrift.

Only Woodhouse managed a time below 40sec, in fact both his timed runs were in the 0.39s.

The hillclimb event has carved out a special place in the historic motor sport calendar since its return; it’s a relaxed antidote to the throng of Goodwood. It’s a hidden gem that’s only getting better.
