I quote from a copy I have of &#8220;The Book of the Motor Car,&#8221; by R. T. Sloss, published by Appleton in 1905. Chapter nine contains this charming and apparently accurate assertion: &#8220;Your 6 1\/2-b.h.p. motor, owing to losses in transmission, can render only about 50 per cent, of its power available at the road tyres.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>PETER D.
