Ken Tyrrell was at Goodwood’s Festival of Speed, thoroughly enjoying his retirement from motorsport, and happy to be on the other side of the fence after a career spanning 45 years, 30 of them in Grand Prix racing.<\/p>\n

His was to be a clean break from the team he founded, but although Ken’s collection of Formula One cars was auctioned at Goodwood, the first Tyrrell chassis will stay in his family.<\/p>\n

To Tyrrell’s amazement, for their intentions were unknown to him, two of his grandchildren stumped up \u00a3155,500 to buy the Derek Gardner-designed 001, which Jackie Stewart raced in 1970. Jonathan Palmer paid \u00a341,650 for 018\/3 which he drove in 1989, 019\/7 got \u00a344,400 and Brooks’s hammer fell at \u00a351,000 for 012\/7. MP<\/strong><\/p>\n
