{"id":48231,"date":"2014-07-07T20:05:28","date_gmt":"2014-07-07T19:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.motorsportmagazine.com\/issue_content\/battling-hardman-ensures-that-its-not-all-chiles-p\/"},"modified":"2019-07-20T05:03:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-20T04:03:11","slug":"battling-hardman-ensures-that-its-not-all-chiles-p","status":"publish","type":"issue_content","link":"https:\/\/www.motorsportmagazine.com\/archive\/article\/june-2003\/8\/battling-hardman-ensures-that-its-not-all-chiles-p\/","title":{"rendered":"Battling Hardman ensures that it&#8217;s not all Chiles play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tour Auto<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After an almighty five-day battle against the Ferrari 250LM of Peter Hardman, Chris Chiles took a second consecutive Tour Auto victory in his Ford GT40.<\/p>\n<p>After a mix of timed road stages and circuit races across central and southern France en route to the finish in Cannes, Chiles had a winning margin of just 13sec.<\/p>\n<p>For much of the event it had been a three-way lead battle courtesy of Danny Sullivan in a Porsche 911RSR, but gearbox failure after two laps of the Ledenon circuit put the former Indy 500 winner out with only one road stage left to run.<\/p>\n<p>Jean Ragnotti was the French hero of the event, taking his Alpine A110 to third place overall once Sullivan had retired.<\/p>\n<p>It proved a disastrous event for British-entered AC Cobras.
