F1 Cooper crashes

Veteran Historic racer Alan Baillie was fortunate to escape unharmed from a hefty qualifying accident at Silverstone in his F1 Cooper T71 (pictured below).

The car rolled twice at Becketts after a slower car spun into its path prior to an HSCC round.

Built for Bob Gerard, the car was raced by John Taylor in 1964 then sold to the USA. It returned in 1996.

“The car’s not in very good shape,” said Baillie, “but it will be back.”
