Tomorrow's F1 starting grid for the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix

Lando Norris will start on pole for the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix ahead of his team-mate and world championship leader Oscar Piastri. Here's how the starting grid looks for Sunday's race at Spa-Francorchamps

Red Bull

Lando Norris will start on pole position for the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix, after beating his team-mate Oscar Piastri by just under a tenth of a second to head the starting grid for what looks likely to be a wet race.

Having finished third behind Max Verstappen and Piastri in the morning’s sprint race, Norris was quickest in qualifying at Spa Francorchamps, as he targets a third consecutive grand prix win.

Sprint winner Verstappen will start fourth behind Charles Leclerc, having battled a twitchy car, and he’ll be ahead of Alex Albon who starts an impressive fifth for Williams.

However Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton will once more have it all to do in the Grand Prix. They were eliminated in the first Q1 stage, just as they were on Friday in qualifying for the sprint race. Antonelli struggled to coax a competitive lap from his Mercedes and was 18th. Hamilton strayed just outside the track limits in his Ferrari, resulting in his best lap time being deleted and leaving him 16th.

Norris was almost half a second behind his team-mate in Friday’s sprint qualifying, which he mainly put down to the lack of a slipstream on his flying lap. He didn’t have that problem and, after fixing “a couple of issues”, took pole.

George Russell will start sixth with Yuki Tsunoda seventh, ahead of both Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson‘s closely-matched Racing Bulls. Gabriel Bortoleto rounds out the top ten for Sauber.

Q1 started badly for Lance Stroll when he was hit by Nico Hülkenberg who was attempting to join the queue of cars in a crowded pitlane. The impact damaged the Sauber’s front wing, but Hülkenberg ultimately recovered to make it into Q2.

The same couldn’t be said for Stroll who was last in the session, just behind Aston Martin team-mate Fernando Alonso: they are set to make up the back of the grid in what looks like the slowest car of the weekend.

Antonelli will start ahead of them, alongside Alpine’s Franco Colapinto. Hamilton was the fastest driver eliminated in Q1.

It was a second disappointment for the Ferrari driver in a car that was trailing only the McLarens and Verstappen in Q2. Leclerc said that he thought he’d already extracted the maximum from his car in setting his Q2 lap time that put him fourth.

Ollie Bearman did not get the best out of his Haas. He was under pressure in Q2 after running wide on his first flying lap and failing to set a time, then had his warm-up lap compromised when Yuki Tsunoda passed hm at the final corner, forcing him to slow down. He missed the apex at Turn 1, and the time loss was probably the difference between going through to the final Q3 stage and — as transpired — being eliminated in 12th place, just behind team-mate Esteban Ocon and a little over a tenth of a second from safety.

Behind the Haas cars, Pierre Gasly, Nico Hülkenberg and Carlos Sainz also left qualifying at this stage.

Piastri had set the pace in Q2, but Norris was fastest from the start of Q3. Despite failing to improve on his second flying lap, his opening time of 1min 40.562sec was quick enough to secure him the pole. A twitch out of the La Source hairpin at the start of his final lap, cost Verstappen a chance to improve and Leclerc seized the opportunity, managing to eke out a bit more time to take third.

Below is the provisional starting grid. This could change ahead of the race if penalties are applied or a driver needs to start from the pitlane.
