Circuit entrepreneur Keith Williams opened Adelaide International Raceway on 9 January 1972 to move racing from his recently acquired Mallala facility and complement his existing Surfers Paradise Raceway. The track features a wide 920-meter main straight that doubles for a drag strip and 7-degree half-mile oval named the Super Bowl. The long straight and banked final meant that Tasman F5000 competitors reached top speeds of 170 mph by the end of the main straight. AIR is now owned by the Bob Jane Corporation.
