Albacete is a narrow and twisting modern circuit set on flat countryside outside the quiet Spanish town. Overtaking proved near impossible when the International Formula 3000 Championship visited in 1992, a forgettable race that was won by Andrea Montermini, and major international car racing categories have not returned. The tight confines proved better suited to bikes which were more popular than cars before the arrival of Fernando Alonso, although the circuit is occasionally used as a winter testing venue.
