The first two editions of the Algerian Grand Prix were held on the roads to the south of Staoueli, ten miles west of the capital city Alger. Heavy rain fell during the inaugural 1928 event which was marred by Albert-Paul Bucciali crashing his self-built Buc and injuring a spectator. The Bugatti T35C of local veteran Marcel Lehoux won that year and the next.
