Edmonton International Speedway was a multi-use permanent facility that featured a 14-turn road course, 0.25-mile short oval and dragstrip. It was built on the site of a former dirt oval (Breckenridge Speedway) in the 1940s that had operated as the paved Speedway Park from 1952. The dragstrip was opened in 1967 with the road course holding its first race a year later. McLaren’s Denny Hulme won the first four Can-Am races at EIS with Mark Donohue a two-time winner and lap record holder. The Can-Am race was resurrected in 1981 alough the circuit was bumpy and unpopular by that time. It was acquired by Qualico Developments and closed a year later to make way for the Hudson Park housing complex.
