The 1949 Gran Premio Internacional del General San Martín Temporada race moved a mile south of the El Torreón street circuit to a new temporary course next to Mar del Plata’s Playa Grande. The 1955 Autosport Yearbook reported that it was “a fast course, with numerous straights, along the seafront and through the streets and public gardens of Mar del Plata, Argentina’s seaside resort and summer playground.” That 1949 race was marred by the death of Adriano Malusardi in practice and a spectator during the race, it was notable for Fangio’s first victory against the visiting European stars. The southern section was used as part of the Circuito Golf in 1966 and 1967.
