The non-championship Buenos Aires Grand Prix was run in intense heat at a parkland circuit in Mendoza at the foothills of the Andes. Engine preparation and carburation were crucial due to the high temperature and altitude. Juan Manuel Fangio qualified his Lancia-Ferrari D50 on pole, took an early lead and eased to victory when 38.6sec ahead of the Maserati 250F of Stirling Moss. Salvador Ataguile had been killed when the Carretera Turismo visited on 21 June 1953. The shorter seven-turn Circuit No 2 was used when it reopened ten years later for the third round of the 1966 Temporada Formula 3 Championship. Charles Crichton-Stuart beat Chris Irwin by 1.4sec on the way to the title, but the meeting was marred by spectator injuries and one fatality in three separate accidents.
