It was a major coup when Formula E announced that Moscow was joining the other capital cities to hold a round during its inaugural season. The setting was certainly iconic for the temporary circuit ran past the Kremlin, St Basil’s Cathedral and Red Square. The lap ended with two switch-back hairpins before the final corner and start/finish straight on the northern bank of the Moskva River. The track surface was very uneven with drivers having to find alternative lines to avoid the most extreme hazards. The penultimate event of 2014/15, championship leader Nelson Piquet Jr led from start-to-finish to enhance his title hopes. A second race planned for June 4 2016 was cancelled.
