The Alan Wilson-designed Ningbo International Speedway was one of five new Chinese circuits built in recent years by Mitime Investments, a subsidiary of Volvo owner Geely Automotive. It opened in 2017 and replaced Shanghai as the country’s round of the World Touring Car Championship in October, although heavy rain and disqualifications marred the weekend. Ningbo continued to host the event in 2018 and 2019 following the switch to TCR rules. However, it was cancelled for the next three years due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021, and in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The 15,000-seater grandstands opposite the pits offer uninterrupted viewing across most of the undulating facility.
