Originally a dog track on the banks of the St Joseph River in South Bend, Indiana, the half-mile Frontier Park Speedway dirt oval operated on this site from 1919 until 1942. It was redeveloped as Playland Park amusement park after World War II. The dirt oval held a crash-filled round of NASCAR's Grand National series in 1952 which Tim Flock won after barging his way passed Herb Thomas. It was paved in 1954 but closed in 1977 to be replaced by a golf course. Remnants of the cement grandstand remain.
