Stamford Park

Stamford Park had been a horse racing venue on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls since its first meeting on 13 October 1923.

Stamford Park had been a horse racing venue on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls since its first meeting on 13 October 1923. It was built on land outside Stamford Township, railway tracks to the south and Woodbine Road in the north. It’s short motor racing life included the first NASCAR championship race outside the United States on 1 July 1952. The rutted dirt surface made it a race of attrition with only six of the 17 starters still circulating by the time Buddy Shuman’s B.A. Pless Hudson Hornet beat Herb Thomas’s similar car by two laps. Stamford Park closed on 1 September 1953 and has since been redeveloped as the Ascot Woods residential neighbourhood.
