Situated to the west of downtown Shanghai, Tianma is part of an automotive development that includes an off-road course, 10,000m2 proving ground, conference hall and cinema. It opened in 2004 in the same year as the more illustrious Shanghai International Circuit 19 miles away. Tianma’s only international meeting to date was a round of the 2011 World Touring Car Championship that was announced with two months’ notice when plans to race at the Guangdong International Circuit failed. That 6 November date clashed with the downtown DTM race which was cancelled. National series such as the Chinese TCR Championship continue to visit this short and twisty venue.
