Oscar Piastri beat McLaren team-mate Lando Norris to pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix by just 0.012sec.

The Australian set a time of 1:08.662sec to beat Norris, who had topped all the practice sessions at Zandvoort ahead of qualifying.

The pole was Piastri’s fifth of the season, but only the first since the Spanish Grand Prix in May.

Local hero Max Verstappen had to settle for third place as the McLaren drivers continued to dominate the weekend.

A stunning lap from Isack Hadjar secured him fourth place on the grid, the best qualifying result of his short F1 career.

The Racing Bulls driver finished ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell, who rounded out the top five.

Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were sixth and seventh as the Scuderia’s difficult weekend continued.

Liam Lawson made it two Racing Bulls in the top 10 with eighth position ahead of Carlos Sainz, the only Williams in the top 10, and Fernando Alonso‘s Aston Martin.

Kimi Antonelli failed to reach the top 10 in the second Mercedes, the young Italian qualifying in 11th after being knocked out by Alonso in the dying seconds of Q2.

Yuki Tsunoda had another disappointing session, finishing down in 12th in the Red Bull.

Sauber‘s Gabriel Bortoleto set the exact same time as Tsunoda to wind up 13th in front of the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams’ Alexander Albon, who had a surprisingly disappointing qualifying.

Albon was unable to improve in his final flying lap, complaining on the radio that he had “no tyres”.

Franco Colapinto was knocked out in Q1 in the second Alpine, the Argentine qualifying 16th ahead of the Sauber of Nico Hülkenberg, 17th after failing to improve his time in his final run.

Haas was the only team without any drivers progressing into Q2, both Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman knocked out in Q1 in 18th and 19th.

Lance Stroll, who had a big crash in second practice on Friday, had another incident on his first flying lap, crashing his Aston Martin against the barriers at Turn 14 after spinning as a result of putting his wheels off the track.

Stroll managed to return to his garage despite the impact, but the damage to his car meant he was unable to go back out, failing to set a time and finishing at the bottom of the times.
