Public Opinion and the Tied Garage

Public opinion polls sponsored by the Motor Accessories Manufacturers’ Association reveal a consistent opposition among motorists to the “tied garage” policy introduced by petrol companies. The most recent of three polls indicates that 82 per cent. of motorists prefer a free choice of petrol at service stations and 82 per cent. prefer a free choice of motor oils. A striking fact emerged in answer to one question in the latest poll: 58 per cent. of motorists said they would take their custom elsewhere if their usual garage ceased to stock their favourite motor oil.

A VW Roof Rack

A collapsible roof rack for those contemplating touring in a VW, under the name of “Collaps-a-Rak,” is available for £5 7s. 6d. from Colborne Garage Ltd., Ripley, Surrey. When folded the rack stows in a box measuring only 31 in. by 7 in. by 3½ in.

Lanchester Out, VW In

Having lost their Lanchester agency because this famous British car has gone out of production, the old-established firm of Stratstone Ltd. has replaced this with a Volkswagen agency.
