Nostalgia

Sir,
As a more recent subscriber to Motor Sport, can you inform me of the type of car used by Ronald Coleman in the early “Bulldog Drummond” film ? I believe it was a Bentley and seem to remember gleaming flexible exhausts with wonderful sound effects.

I should like a photograph of same or equivalent, perhaps one of your readers is the present owner. Who knows, I have seen stranger facts come to light in your readers’ letters.

Just to read Motor Sport takes me back to my boyhood days in England when we carried a Castrol lubrication pocket book with almost all known makes listed.

The competition at school to find a rare one not seen by other keen car spotters, my delight in observing a Morris London— we didn’t believe there was one—a Trumble, Briscoe, Amilcar, Salmson and H.E.s with their DP (Reading) number plates. They call it nostalgia nowadays, but how we like to reminisce in these days of mass production, of the efforts of the enthusiastic small manufacturers of the ’20s.

To read the classified and other adverts in Motor Sport brings back a flood of memories.
