Single-handed towing
Tow ropes are all very fine except that the towed vehicle has to be steered which means that for such operations a willing accomplice has to be found. A way round this which has recently been tried and tested by Motor Sport’s fleet mechanic is the Solo Mk. IV breakdown recovery unit. This device “steers” the towed vehicle and thus eliminate all but the driver of the towing vehicle. We found it easy to fit and as long as the bumpers are not too flimsy no damage should occur. Reversing is not advised so don’t get lost in culs-de-sac! The Solo Mk. 4 retails at £49.00 and is available from: Colin H. Richardson, 125 Catford Hill, London S.E.6.
